About Goku
π Origin Story
Born as Kakarot on Planet Vegeta, Goku was sent to Earth as a baby to conquer it. However, after a head injury, he forgot his violent Saiyan nature and was raised by Grandpa Gohan to become Earth's greatest hero.

Goku first appeared in Weekly ShΕnen Jump on November 20, 1984, in Chapter 1: "Bulma and Son Goku."
π Inspired by Journey to the West
Akira Toriyama based Goku on Sun Wukong (Son Goku in Japanese), the Monkey King from the classic Chinese novel. Early chapters directly parodied the story.
π Total Manga Chapters
The original Dragon Ball manga ran for 519 chapters across 42 volumes from 1984 to 1995.
π¨ Character Design Evolution
Toriyama's art style evolved significantly. Early Goku had a rounder, childish design. As the series progressed, his features became sharper and more detailed.

Goku ages throughout the manga: 12 years old at debut, 18 when he marries Chi-Chi, 43 by the end of Dragon Ball Z.

Goku dies twice in the manga: sacrificing himself against Raditz (revived by Dragon Balls), and dying from a heart virus in Future Trunks' timeline. He also dies against Cell but was revived.

In the manga, Goku never actually defeats Vegeta in a one-on-one fight. Their first battle ended with Vegeta retreating, and they've been rivals ever since.

Goku never received formal education. He can barely read or write, relying on Chi-Chi and others for anything requiring literacy.
